A Special Place
I took these photos during our recent stay on Benguerra Island, Mozambique.
These children are sitting in a classroom in a tiny school on a tiny island off the coast of Mozambique.
They love their school. Some of them walk nearly 5 kilometres each way to get there. It provides the only means to improve their lives and eventually find jobs off the island or with the resorts that are supporting this small community.
They have three enthusiastic teachers and three new buildings, but very little in the way of learning materials. They desperately need books in Portuguese, dictionaries, stationery, pens, pencils, rulers and all the things you would normally see in a school.
.
Their community subsists on the dwindling fish in the lagoon and what they can grow.
There are no roads, running water, sanitation, electricity or medical clinics.
With the generous offer of help from DHL Worldwide Express who have agreed to ship for free, and the Raindbow Fund set up by the Azura Resort on Benguerra, we would like to send out as much as we can collect to help this amazing community.
We would like to ask all our friends, customers, local businesses, and blog readers to donate a few useful items that will make a huge difference to these wonderful children.
I am sure you all have an odd drawer that needs a clear out!
